Nikolay Zhelev

Nikolay Zhelev is an Assistant Professor, PhD, in the Bulgarian National Revival Literature Department at the Institute for Literature, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He holds a degree in Slavic Philology with a specialization in Slovak Language and Literature from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". In October 2021, he defended his doctoral dissertation titled "The Idea of Illyrianism: Origin, Development, and Reflection in 19th-Century Bulgarian Culture".

His research interests encompass 19th-century Slovak, Czech, and Bulgarian literatures, as well as the concepts of Pan-Slavism and aspects of Slavic history. He is a key researcher in academic projects such as "The Bulgarian Literary Pantheon and the Slavic World in the Scholarly Heritage of Boris Yotsov: Reconstruction of Ideas" and "Fact and Fiction in 19th-Century Bulgarian Prose: Analogies with Foreign Literatures".
