Оgnyan Kovachev, Assoc. Prof. Dr.

Ognyan Kovachev, born in 1961 in Varna, is an Associate Professor, PhD, in Classical and Western European Literature at the Department of Literary Theory, as well as founder and co-director of the Master's program "Literature, Cinema and Visual Culture" in the Faculty of Slavic Studies at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". He completed a research specialization at Christ Church, Oxford (2007), was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA (2011), and served as a Lecturer in Bulgarian Language, Literature and Culture at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES), University College London (2009–2013). He has also taught at the Institute for Qualification and In-Service Teacher Training "Dr. Peter Beron" in Varna, Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen, New Bulgarian University, and South-West University "Neofit Rilski".

Primary Research Areas:

Comparative literary history, Gothic studies, film studies, literature and cinema, literary canon, translation theory, and the legacy of Petar Uvaliev.
